The Real Korea Textbooks Won’t Teach You

Welcome to Picky Record!

Have you ever watched a K-Drama and wondered, “Wait, the subtitles say ‘Hello,’ but that’s not what they really mean?” or listened to a K-Pop song and got stuck on a slang word that isn’t in the dictionary?

You are in the right place.

The Mission

Current Korean textbooks are great for grammar, but they often fail to teach you the “Soul” of the language. They teach you how to speak like a news anchor, not like a real friend.

Korean Urban Dictionary(KUD) was created to bridge that gap. We decode the “untranslatable.” We explain the nuances of Nunchi, the grit of Jonbeo, and the affection in Jeong.

Who We Are

I am a KUD‘s writer and a founder of Picky Record based in Seoul. I have spent years learning languages, English, German, Japanese, and cultures, and also how culture shapes language.

I realized that to truly understand Korea, you need to look beyond the standard definitions. You need to understand the context, the trends, and the street vibes.

What You Will Find Here

  • Trending Slang: The words Gen-Z and Idols are using right now.
  • Cultural Deep Dives: Why do Koreans do that? (Drinking culture, Work hierarchy, Dating rules).
  • Survival Tips: How to navigate life in Korea without being “awkward.”
